Reader Being yourself is hard work. It feels easier to try to be someone else. (But it doesn't work long term). I've been a professional writer for 7 years, and one thing I've learned through helping hundreds of businesses uncover their story is that we all have so many amazing stories inside of us. Every single one of us. The challenge is we can't see them. To us - the stories feel so normal. So unremarkable. We are so busy trying to be someone else, that we can't see the stories we've lived (and are living this moment). We forget the plot and don't stop and share our truth. The lessons. The challenges. The wins. The underdog stories where we didn't know if we had what it takes. Stories connect us. But we have to find them and share them. I've learned that we need a little help to dig deeper and pull out the stories that help us connect with others. But it's important. Now more than ever. Because authenticity is the ultimate connection builder. The old "funnel" model of marketing isn't working anymore. People don't trust the funnel. They trust humans who share real, raw, and messy stories that we connect with. And stories are the threads that pull those connections together and build trust. Stories are the fuel that build communities. When we communicate with honesty and realness, people can't help but take notice. Trust begins to flourish. Barriers come down. Folks lean in closer to really hear what we have to say. And that's when the magic happens. Hearts open. Minds expand. Relationships grow. Being real, venerable, and open is harder than it looks. Because you have to slow down and do the deep work. The "I feel like a hot mess, what do I have to offer??" kind of work. We become more than just another forgettable brand; we become a trusted neighbor, a valued confidant, a true partner in the journey. - Josh |
